Root Mash contains a selection of special fungi species collectively known as Trichoderma.

Key benefits

  • Develops bigger healthier roots.
  • Prevents infection by soil/medium born diseases.

Root Mash beneficial micro-organisms live on root hairs and kill harmful pathogens using them as nutrition for their own growth. Root Mash boosts key nutrient solubility thereby increasing uptake to grow bigger stronger plants.

Used effectively Root Mash is a secret ‘underground’ weapon for the grower. Like a vicious guard dog protects the home Root Mash protects the root zone from pathogens trying to ‘break in’. Not only that, in its spare time Root Mash helps plants to feed better. Truly a growers best friend.

Caring for your Root Mash

Root Mash contains live cultures - therefore only purchase a quantity that will be sufficient for your needs within the next 6 month period. Root Mash should be stored cool (approximately 10OC) and dark. Once Root Mash cultures have populated the root zone they will grow and multiply, hence after a series of weekly treatments the dose can be reduced. In theory the applications can be stopped, however in practice continuing with reduced dose applications guarantees the living population is maintained.

How to use

Digital pocket scales are advised for accurately measuring Root Mash. Application of a water & Root Mash solution is best achieved using either a syringe or jug (for larger plants). Dont worry about adding too much - it is impossible to harm your plants by over-dosing! Its better to use a little too much, rather than less than required to prevent disease, and maximise nutrient uptake. Do however take the time and care needed and observe the instructions to get the most out of Root Mash. If you have any questions ask your retailer or contact Field Marshal.

Root Mash 10g is suitable for about a 1m2 garden area over a 12 weeks / 3 month period. This is, on average, suited for approximately 10 mature plants.

Soil & Coco

Seedlings & cuttings (once weekly application):

Mix 0.5g per 100ml of water and, using a syringe, treat each young plant in their cube/starter pot with 10ml of freshly prepared solution.

Repotting: mix 0.5g into every 10L of medium.

Regular treatments (every 2-3 weeks): Mix 1.5g per 10L of water (0.15g per 1L). Using a jug apply at a rate of 1L of solution per 10L of soil or coco medium.

Soil/Coco example schedule:

based on 10 plants grown over three months in 10L pots:

Propagation (week 1) Use 0.5g Root Mash

0.5g in 100ml of water, 10ml per seedling

First repotting (week 3) Use 1.5g Root Mash

from starter plugs into 3L pots: 10 pots x 3L each = 30L of Coco @ 0.5g per 10L = 1.5g

Second repotting (week 5) Use 3.5g Root Mash from 3L pot into 10L pots: require additional 7L of Coco per pot to ‘pot up’. 10x 7L = 70litres of Coco @ 0.5g per 10l = 3.5g

First Top up (week 7) Use 1.5g Root Mash

mix 1.5g into 10L of water, using a jug pour 1L onto each 10l pot.

Second Top Up (week 10) Use 1.5g Root Mash mix 1.5g into 10L of water, using a jug pour 1L onto each 10L pot.

Harvest end of week 12.

Total Root Mash used = 8.5grams.

Hydroponics/Rockwool

Seedlings & cuttings (week1):

Mix 0.5g per 100ml of water and using a syringe treat each starter cube with 10ml of solution.

When transplanting into 3” or 4” cubes: mix 3g per 1L of water and using a syringe treat each rockwool cube with 100ml of solution.

Every 2-3 weeks. Mix 1.5g per 1L and using a syringe treat each rockwool cube with 100ml of solution.

Rockwool example schedule:

based on 10 plants grown in over three months in an NFT system:

Propagation (week 1) Use 0.5g Root Mash

0.5g in 100ml of water, 10ml per seedling)

4” Transplant cube (week 3) Use 3g Root Mash mix 3g per 1L of water, treat 10x cubes with 100ml each of solution = 1L = 3g.

First Top up (week 5) Use 1.5g Root Mash

mix 1.5g per 1L of water, treat 10x cubes with 100ml each of solution = 1L = 1.5g

Second Top Up (week 7-8) Use 1.5g Root Mash mix 1.5g into 1L of water, treat 10x cubes with 100ml each of solution = 1L = 1.5g

Third Top Up (week 10-11) Use 1.5g Root Mash mix 1.5g into 1L of water, treat 10x cubes with 100ml each of solution = 1L = 1.5g

Harvest end of week 12.

Total Root Mash used = 8.0grams.

Tip for Flood & Drain systems with clay pebbles

Root Mash lives on your roots therefore the aim is to apply the Root Mash directly to the roots so apply Root Mash between flood cycles and not during flooding (ideally shortly after the system has just finished draining). Root Mash colonises better in rockwool and coco than in pebbles, therefore it assists to:

1) transplant young plants into a 75mm (3”) or 100mm (4”) cube before placing in pebble flood pot or flood tray as opposed to transplanting directly from a starter plug.

2) inject Root Mash solution slowly to maximise retention in rockwool

3) try using pebble:coco coir mixes (60:40 ratio if making your own mix)
