The new Alien® flood and drain hydroponic system consists of a new heavy-duty steel wall mounted control module. The module is microprocessor controlled so there are no moving parts inside making this the most reliable flood and drain system on the market today.
The intelligent module will pause at the maximum flood height for 20 seconds ensuring an equal water level in all pots. Even if you forget to top up your tank the system will drain at the end of the cycle even if there’s not enough water in the tank to fill the system completely.
- No float switches
- Electronic level sensing
- Faster flood+drain times
- Collapsible Tanks
- 32mm pipe+fittings
- Silent operation
Research and development
The Alien™ flood & drain systems are the most advanced on the market to date. Our continuous research has allowed us to address issues associated with other modular systems and enabled us to develop a simple to use, reliable and faster flood & drain system.
Patent pending technology
Previous flood and drain systems have used ‘mechanical’ float switches which can be bulky, inaccurate, easily disabled by debris and their moving parts are often unreliable with disastrous results when they fail. To overcome the failings of a mechanical float switch we have designed an ‘Electronic Control Unit’ (patent pending) that uses probes to electronically control the level of nutrient solution in the brain pot. The ECU also houses a programmable timer allowing you to control the frequency of flood cycles.
How it works
When a set time is reached, the irrigation cycle begins flooding the system with the nutrient solution, the solution rises throughout the entire system forcing the stale air out and enriching the plant’s roots with nutrients. When the pots are full, the upper probe communicates to the ECU to end the fill cycle and start the drain cycle. This process returns all the nutrient solution back to the Ripstop tank. The system remains idle until the timer reaches the next set flood time then the process is repeated. Our electronic control units are tried and tested and are CE approved. They are made in the UK by our own in house electronic engineers who are available for technical support should you have any questions.
Improving performance
We have specifically manufactured 32mm flexible PVC pipe and fittings in food grade material. The internal size of the pipe is over 5 x the size of the standard 13mm pipe used in other systems, this has many advantages. Firstly, it allows us to use faster flowing pumps so our flood and drain cycle is completed up to 3 x faster than other systems on the market. This more efficient process produces healthier plants and a higher yield as the roots are submerged for the shortest possible time. The increased diameter also minimises the risk of the roots blocking the pipes. We have designed the pot stands sloped which aids drainage and are supplied with our flood & drain systems.
Easy set up
To keep the system set up time to a minimum the 11 litre plastic pots have pre-punched holes. With each system a pair of quality pipe cutters are provided so no tools are required. We use our own specially designed grommets and fittings to ensure secure and water tight connections. The entire system is simply push-fit.
Ripstop Tank
The Alien™ Ripstop Tanks are a collapsible water tank which enables the whole system to fit through tight spaces. The tank comes flat packed enabling the entire system to fit neatly into a cardboard box which allows for easier transportation. The material is non toxic and 100% lightproof and as the name suggests, it doesn’t rip.
Larger systems are available and custom configured systems can be made to your requirements. All parts are available separately should you wish to expand your system at a later date.
Alien™ have brought the next generation of flood & drain systems to the hobbyist and professional grower using innovative design and the latest technology.
